Beverly Hills, California: The California Chair of the Israeli-American Civic Action Network Chair (ICAN) took her oath of office today as she assumed her new role as a commissioner on the City of Beverly Hills Human Relations Commission.
The Human Relations Commission (HRC) consists of five members of the Beverly Hills community appointed by the City Council to advise, recommend, assist and encourage activities and programs to promote positive human relations in all aspects of community life.
“I am truly honored that I have the privilege to serve on this important commission,” said Elkouby Nisim. “During these historic times, facing unprecedented challenges, how we treat each other is more important than ever.”
As chair of ICAN in California, Elkouby Nisim has prioritized cross-community engagement and outreach, spearheading efforts to build bridges between the Israeli community and other communities across the state.
“As an Israeli, it’s essential that we have a seat at the table when it comes to policies affecting our community,” added Elkouby Nisim. “Antisemitism and anti-Israel sentiments are at historically high levels. I look forward to serving all Beverly Hills residents and work towards a future that is welcoming and respectful for all.”
ICAN’s efforts to promote engagement across communities go beyond Beverly Hills. Central to ICAN California’s efforts to promote cross-community engagement is Assembly Bill 1126, establishing a commission on the state of hate. This new commission will examine hate crimes and propose solutions to the state’s policymakers. The bill has passed the legislature and is awaiting Governor Newsom’s signature.
