Los Angeles City Council Unanimously Passes Resolution Endorsing LAUSD Policies Combating Antisemitism

Action Precedes Controversial Los Angeles Teachers’ Union Anti-Israel Vote

Los Angeles, California: In a unanimous vote, the Los Angeles City Council passed a resolution endorsing new Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD) policies designed to combat antisemitism. ICAN organized hundreds of Israeli families in Los Angeles to support the Los Angeles City Council resolution.

Passage of the City Council resolution and the new LAUSD policies to combat antisemitism come just weeks before the local teachers union, UTLA, is set to vote on formally endorsing a boycott of Israel, a move many leaders in the City of Los Angeles have condemned, raising concerns about potential incitement of antisemitism targeting Jewish and Israeli residents.

“Israelis, like any immigrant community, deserve the right to connect with their culture and celebrate their heritage, free from bias and bigotry,” said Councilmember Bob Blumenfield, the primary author of LA City resolution. Joining him as a co-author of the resolution was Councilmember Nithya Raman.

The UTLA resolution endorsing a boycott of Israel is currently scheduled for a vote on September 23rd, 2021.
