The Beverly Hills City Council unanimously voted to appoint ICAN California Chair Vered Elkouby Nisim to serve as a commissioner on the City’s Human Relations Commission during the council’s August 18th formal session.

The Human Relations Commission is dedicated to establishing the City of Beverly Hills as a model of a just and equitable society by recognizing the value of a diverse community that fosters understanding and acceptance of all its citizens and promotes civil discourse and conduct.

“I am truly humbled by this opportunity and I am honored to be of service to this prestigious commission, the City, and all of our residents,” said Vered. “We are facing incredibly challenging times with civil unrest, rising antisemitism, and other forms of hate. I hope to bring my unique perspective and experience as an Israeli, an entrepreneur, and a mother to the Human Relations Commission and continue the amazing work of my predecessors to ensure Beverly Hills remains the most welcoming city in the world.”

“I look forward to spending the coming months learning from the current chair and members of the commission so that when I am sworn in, I am ready to get to work on day one,” Vered added. “I will also work with members of the Israeli-American community to encourage greater civic engagement and participation in government to ensure our voices are heard.”

In her capacity as Chair of ICAN in California, Vered has prioritized community outreach and building bridges between the Israeli, Latino, African American, Asian American, and other communities across Los Angeles in an effort to reduce antisemitism and other forms of hate by promoting cross-cultural education and fostering mutual respect.

Vered’s appointment to the Beverly Hills Human Rights Commission is for a two-year term.
