“The Israeli-American Civic Action Network (ICAN) welcomes the Cambridge City Council’s decision to reject the divisive and discriminatory policy order endorsing the Boycott, Divest, and Sanctions movement against Israel.
Moments ago, the Cambridge City Council rejected a measure that would have made it the first city in the United States to officially boycott Israel. The message from Cambridge is clear: the fringe and discriminatory movement to boycott Israel has no place in any American city.
This decision follows ICAN’s mobilization campaign, organizing over 6,600 grassroots activists against the BDS proposal.
During multiple City Council meetings, significant misinformation about Israel and Israelis was shared by members of the public. ICAN thanks the Cambridge City Council members who appreciated the complex nature of events in the Middle East and encouraged dialogue and understanding rather than divisiveness and distrust.
ICAN also wishes to thank our organizational partners and the thousands of advocates and generous contributors who made this victory possible.
Our fight is not over.
