Los Angeles, California: The Israeli-American Civic Action Network (ICAN) in California has announced the endorsement of former Mayor and West Hollywood councilmember Lindsey Horvath for Los Angeles County Supervisor.

“The County of Los Angeles provides essential services that keep our communities safe, families healthy, and businesses thriving,” said Vered Elkouby Nisim, Chair of ICAN California. “Lindsey Horvath has consistently demonstrated that she understands the needs and concerns of the Jewish and Israeli-American Communities and has the track record to prove it. She is the right person for this important job.”

ICAN evaluated candidates based on their policies related to enhancing public safety, combating antisemitism, and supporting policies that protect Israeli immigrants from national origin discrimination.

“I am honored to have earned the endorsement of the Israeli-American Civic Action Network (ICAN). We continue to see an alarming rise in antisemitism, both locally and nationally, and we must do everything we can to root out hate wherever it exists. In my community, I’ve worked to increase coordination between public safety personnel – including law enforcement – and Jewish community groups, and have expanded supportive services. We worked together to establish community safety protocols and support for Jewish people, community centers, and places of worship, which I intend to expand regionally. No one should ever have to live in fear, and the County must act aggressively to root out hate and bigotry in any form. As Supervisor, I will work closely with our Jewish communities to make sure everyone feels safe and has the support they need,” said Councilmember Lindsey P. Horvath.

In her capacity as Mayor and Councilmember of the City of West Hollywood, ICAN has worked with Horvath to:

  1. Oppose the discriminatory boycott movement targeting Israel, Israelis, and the Jewish community,
  2. Support for Holocaust education and condemning Holocaust denial and distortion,
  3. Urging the State of California to rewrite the Ethnic Studies curriculum to remove antisemitic content,
  4. Support the creation of a commission to advise State leaders on how best to combat antisemitism, and
  5. Establish a comprehensive Jewish community safety and security plan.

“The Jewish community security plan created by Councilmember Horvath is the most complete and comprehensive proposal to secure our vulnerable communities,” said Dillon Hosier, CEO at ICAN. “It is a blueprint that can and should be implemented countywide.”

The County of Los Angeles has the largest Jewish population in the United States and is home to the largest Israeli immigrant population outside of Israel, including an estimated 250,000 first and second-generation Israelis across Southern California.[/vc_column_text][vc_column_text uncode_shortcode_id=”210374″]What our endorsement means:

ICAN is the only bipartisan Jewish / pro-Israel Israeli-American advocacy organization that endorses candidates at all levels of government and during primaries. ICAN supports candidates who generally believe:

1. The rise in antisemitism is unacceptable and new policy solutions need to be considered to fight this rising tide of hatred targeting Jews and Israelis.

2. The special relationship between our home, the United States, our homeland, Israel must be protected, strengthened, and deepened, including with state and local partners.

3. That Israeli-Americans, like any immigrant community, deserve the right to celebrate our heritage and connect with our culture free from bias and bigotry.

ICAN promotes the candidates we endorse to relevant constituencies, provide opportunities for candidates and voters to meet and connect, and host important voter registration activities to ensure everyone eligible to vote supports our preferred candidates.[/vc_column_text][vc_column_text uncode_shortcode_id=”140603″]The Israeli-American Civic Action Network is dedicated to empowering Israeli immigrants and American allies to create change for a better America, a more secure Israel, and a stronger U.S. – Israel alliance through advocacy education and civic action.
