The recent acknowledgment by the U.S. State Department of Lithuania's law that mandates the removal of monuments honoring Nazi collaborators is a significant step forward in eradicating the glorification of Nazi and Soviet regimes and their ideologies. This development is encouraging, and I commend your efforts in this regard.

However, I believe that there is still much work to be done. While the law is a positive development, its enforcement is crucial. I urge you to take serious and immediate action to ensure the removal of these monuments, particularly those honoring Nazi collaborators like Jonas Noreika. Dealing with the Jonas Noreika monuments first would demonstrate the seriousness of the commission and its commitment to dealing with Nazi monuments and honors.

The presence of these monuments in public spaces serves to distort the truth of the Holocaust and perpetuates harmful ideologies. Their removal is not just a matter of historical accuracy, but also a matter of justice for the victims of the Holocaust and a testament to our collective commitment to ensuring that such atrocities are never repeated.

I would also like to highlight that Silvia Foti, a descendant of Jonas Noreika, has asked for his honors to be removed. I believe that the commission should honor her request as a significant step towards rectifying the distortions of the past.
