The Israeli-American Civic Action Network (ICAN), the nation’s only Israeli-American advocacy organization, is pleased to announce that Sigal Chattah has been appointed to the City of Las Vegas Planning Commission by Councilwoman Victoria Seaman, representing Ward 2. Las Vegas Ward 2 encompasses the western part of the City of Las Vegas including the community of Summerlin. Commissioner Chattah is an attorney at the Chattah Law Group and serves as ICAN’s Nevada Chairwoman and on the organization’s National Board.
The Las Vegas City Council unanimously ratified Commissioner Chattah’s appointment during the July 17, 2019 session. The City of Las Vegas Planning Commission must prepare and adopt a comprehensive, long-term general plan for the physical development of the City. Commissioner Chattah is the first Israeli-American to serve in public office in the City of Las Vegas and the State of Nevada.
“I am proud to represent my community, and Ward 2, on the Planning Commission, as a mother, as an Israeli-American, it’s an honor to play a role in shaping the future of Las Vegas,” said Commissioner Chattah. “I thank Councilwoman Seaman for giving me this opportunity and look forward to working with her and all residents from Ward 2.”
In her role as ICAN’s Nevada State Chairwoman, Commissioner Chattah has advocated for anti-discrimination legislation, fought for expanded access to Holocaust education, and worked to ensure the grassroots in her community is civically engaged.
“The entire ICAN family salutes Commissioner Chattah today,” said Dillon Hosier, Chief Advocacy Officer. “Having more Israeli-Americans serve in public office, representing our community as decisionmakers rather than being subject to the decisions of others, is one of our primary objectives.”
Commissioner Chattah’s appointment to the City of Las Vegas Planning Commission is for a term of four years.
