Los Angeles, California: The Israeli-American Civic Action Network (ICAN) announced today that it has endorsed Paul Koretz for Los Angeles City Controller in the upcoming 2022 municipal election.
Koretz currently serves on the Los Angeles City Council representing the 5th Council District which is home to a large Israeli and Jewish population. Over the years, Koretz has led several initiatives in support of Los Angeles’ Israeli community and the City’s relationship with Israel.
“Paul Koretz has a long track record of supporting the special relationship between the United States and Israel at the local level, opposing the antisemitic boycott movement, and promoting partnerships and engagement,” said Vered Elkouby Nisim, ICAN California Chair.
Koretz authored a council resolution that prohibited the City from endorsing a boycott of the State of Israel. He supported the California-Israel Strategic Partnership Agreement signed by Governor Brown and Prime Minister Netanyahu, resulting in several benefits over the years to the City of Los Angeles. And most recently, Koretz led an initiative condemning Eastern European governments for perpetuating Holocaust denial and distortion and has been a leading voice in the fight against antisemitism.
“Over the years, Councilmember Koretz has stood up for our community, from Israelis who have just arrived in Los Angeles to support for Holocaust survivors, Paul has been there for us,” said Esther Ravid, ICAN California Executive Council member. “We look forward to Paul continuing his service as Controller for the City of Los Angeles.”
Los Angeles is currently scheduled to hold its Primary Nominating Election on June 7, 2022, and the General Municipal Election on November 8, 2022.
