In addition to their support in condemning the biased ethnic studies curriculum, these elected leaders each have a long history of supporting the Israeli-American community and the vital relationship between the United States and Israel. The State of California and the cities of Los Angeles, West Hollywood, and Beverly Hills each have unique partnerships with Israel and continue to foster a deeper relationship through ICAN programs.

The event was hosted by Vered Elkouby Nisim, ICAN California’s Chairwoman and featured the organization’s Next Generation Leadership board, including Dani Nisim, Mati Guela-Cohen, Yael Gluck, Gavriel Gershon, Daniel Louis, and Shawn Dayan, with each presenting ICAN’s Visionary awards to elected officials.

“ICAN was founded recognizing a simple fact: Israeli-American immigrants, whether first-generation or third, needed a voice,” said Nisim. “We needed an organization that understood our unique identity, that understood our unique connection to our heritage, and understood that we Israeli-Americans have an important role to play in acting to protect our own communities here in America.”

“Now with ICAN, we understand that in order to actually make a difference, our voices not only have to be heard, but we have to be pro-active,” Nisim added. “We have to get in front of the issues, instead of constantly chasing them, we need to have a seat at the table and have our views included as policies are created.”

“I thank you for what you’re doing here at ICAN,” said Councilmember Bosse. “It is so important, it is so needed, and it resonates with me to the very fiber of my being.”

“ICAN advocates have played a vital role in stopping anti-Semitism in West Hollywood,” said Mayor Pro Tem Horvath. “You’ve done important and necessary work in representing the voice of the Israeli-American immigrant community.”

“Together, we have made an important difference in pushing back against anti-Semitism and strengthening our important relationship with Israel,” said Mayor Mirisch.

Controller Ron Galperin and Councilmember Bob Blumenfield presented ICAN California’s Chairwoman Vered Elkouby Nisim with a special Certificate of Appreciation on behalf of the City of Los Angeles which recognized her “work to ensure that Israeli-Americans are empowered to create positive change, are civically engaged, and work to strengthen the special relationship between the United States and Israel.”[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row row_height_percent=”0″ override_padding=”yes” h_padding=”2″ top_padding=”5″ bottom_padding=”5″ back_color=”color-wayh” overlay_alpha=”0″ gutter_size=”100″ column_width_percent=”100″ shift_y=”0″ z_index=”0″ top_divider=”gradient” style=”inherited” row_name=”Gallery”][vc_column column_width_percent=”100″ align_horizontal=”align_center” gutter_size=”4″ style=”dark” overlay_alpha=”100″ shift_x=”0″ shift_y=”0″ medium_width=”0″ zoom_width=”0″ zoom_height=”0″ width=”1/1″ mobile_width_full=””][vc_row_inner row_inner_height_percent=”0″ overlay_alpha=”50″ gutter_size=”3″ shift_y=”0″][vc_column_inner column_width_use_pixel=”yes” align_horizontal=”align_center” gutter_size=”2″ style=”dark” overlay_alpha=”100″ shift_x=”0″ shift_y=”0″ medium_width=”0″ zoom_width=”0″ zoom_height=”0″ width=”1/1″ column_width_pixel=”600″ mobile_width_full=””][vc_custom_heading heading_semantic=”h3″ text_size=”h1″ sub_lead=”yes” sub_reduced=”yes” css_animation=”bottom-t-top” animation_delay=”100″ text_align=”text-center” text_uppercase=”” text_serif=”” subheading=”November 12, 2019″]ICAN California Visionary Awards[/vc_custom_heading][/vc_column_inner][/vc_row_inner][vc_gallery el_id=”gallery-73689423″ type=”carousel” medias=”79121,79120,79119,79118,79117,79116,79115,79114,79113,79112,79111,79110,79109,79108,79107,79106,79105,79104,79103,79102,79101,79100,79099,79098,79097,79096,79095″ carousel_lg=”1″ carousel_md=”2″ carousel_sm=”1″ thumb_size=”nine-sixteen” gutter_size=”4″ media_items=”media|lightbox|original,icon|md” carousel_interval=”0″ carousel_navspeed=”400″ carousel_loop=”yes” carousel_overflow=”yes” carousel_dots=”yes” carousel_dots_space=”yes” carousel_dots_mobile=”yes” stage_padding=”70″ single_shape=”round” radius=”xs” single_overlay_color=”color-wayh” single_overlay_opacity=”50″ single_image_anim=”no” single_h_align=”center” single_padding=”2″ single_icon=”fa fa-plus2″ single_shadow=”yes” shadow_weight=”xl” shadow_darker=”yes” single_border=”yes” single_css_animation=”zoom-in” single_animation_delay=”200″ lbox_no_tmb=”yes” carousel_rtl=”” single_title_uppercase=”” single_half_padding=”” single_title_serif=”” single_no_background=””][/vc_column][/vc_row]
