Dear Mayor and City Council,

I am writing to unequivocally condemn the recent resolution passed by you and your city council, a resolution which is both antisemitic and anti-Israel.

While you and the Council claim to advocate for human rights and social justice, your resolution is one-sided and perpetuates harmful stereotypes. It's important to note that your resolution fails to address the role of Hamas, an organization officially designated as a terrorist entity by the United States. Furthermore, your resolution contains disinformation and misinformation, most of which is propagated by Hamas itself. Additionally, your resolution accuses Israel of collective punishment, an accusation that is not only inaccurate but also hypocritical. The resolution overlooks the fact that thousands of rocket attacks from Gaza indiscriminately target Israeli civilians, which is an obvious form of collective punishment.

The damage done by your resolution extends beyond your city limits; it has sown division locally, throughout the State of California, and across the nation. Your resolution attempts to address a complex international issue that is thousands of miles away and not fully understood by the Council. While you are clearly not an international law expert, it's your responsibility to ensure that official statements from the City contain factual and accurate information. You have failed in this regard.

In light of these concerns, we strongly urge the Council to take immediate corrective action. First, revisit the language and framing of your resolution to ensure it is accurate and factual. Second, consult a diverse range of community members, especially those with lived experience in the region, before passing resolutions on international issues. Finally, use your platform to foster meaningful dialogue and mutual understanding, rather than promoting fringe ideologies.

I insist that you take these concerns into serious consideration and revise the resolution to reflect a more factual perspective.
